Week 33: Such Great Heights

September 29, 2010

Week 33

Week 33: A roller coaster from La Ronde in Montreal and the iconic Sacré-Coeur Basilica. I feel like you guys can piece together the connections.

Week 32

Week 32: A photo from Pere Lachaise cemetary in Paris, a scan of half of an etching I created in University (the source material for the etching) and a photo of construction… at La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, I believe. I find myself drawn to the geometry of construction sites and especially the silhouette of cranes in the sky. There must be symbolism there for me about growth and moving onward, upward. This project I juxtaposed that idea with the cemetery… though it represents death and the end of a journey, we build monuments to remember those we’ve lost and I suppose, move on.

Week 31: Adore

September 28, 2010

Week 31

Week 31: Some of us worship differently than others. Photos from: 1) A Joel Plaskett show back in “the day”* 2) A Slipknot show (courtesy of Paul) and 3) some small central Albertan town’s outdoor altar a grotto in Beaumont, Alberta (thanks for the tips, friends).

* The Day, if you were wondering was approximately 2005.

Week 30: Clemency

September 10, 2010

Week 30

I have a boundless fascination with cemetaries. Especially those in Europe. And the two I visited in Paris (Pere Lachaise and Montmartre) were stunning. They will probably serve as future inspiration for more of these photo projects (be warned).

Week 29: Fishbowl

September 3, 2010

Week 29

“We’re just two lost souls, swimming in a fish bowl, year after year…” 10 points to whoever names the song first.

An overexposed photo of the famous Arch in Cabo San Lucas, a bugs-eye view of a grassy area and our dearly departed betta fish, Keith. RIP, Keith, you were a good fish.

Going to press…

September 2, 2010

Just over halfway done the photo project, I’ve decided to print a few of them and donate one of them to the GDC’s A Creative Cause. I was hoping to get some input into which everyone likes the best… The entire photo project can be seen (more easily) here on Flickr. Little help?

Aaaaand one of the projects I’m going to get printed onto aluminum. It’ll be a little pricey, but I think worth it. Probably that’ll be Mon Coeur Est Ici (Week 26), but I’m open to suggestions.

Thanks, friends
